Two Days’ National Seminar on Persona and Literary Contribution S. Devinder Singh Vishvanagrik Commences at JU

Jammu, Dec 22: Under Azadi Ka Amrit Kaal, a two days Seminar on Persona and Literary Contribution S. Devinder Singh Vishvanagrik in the field of Punjabi poetry and plays was organized by the Post Graduate Department of Punjabi, University of Jammu in collaboration with Punjabi Lekhak Sabha (PLS), Jammu at the Seminar Hall of the Department of Punjabi today. 

Prof. Naresh Padha, Dean Academic Affairs, University of Jammu was the chief guest on this occasion whereas Dr Monojit presided over the program.  Dr. Manjinder Singh, HEAD Punjabi, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar was the special guest on this occasion. A large number of intellectuals, writers, research scholars, students and others attended the Symposium. 

The program started with the welcome address by Prof. Baljeet Kour, HEAD, Department of Punjabi, University of Jammu. In her address she said that the Department has started organizing various events of literary interaction between literary people, research scholars, students, faculty and the public in general and this Seminar is one among the series of literary events of the department.

The keynote address was presented by Dr. Sukhwinder Singh, HoD, Punjabi, Guru Nanak Dev University College, Sujanpur (Punjab). In his address, he portrayed the qualitative elements from the persona and literary pursuits of S. Devinder Singh Vishvanagrik. He said that the literary works of Vishvanagrik appeal to the universal brotherhood and are concerned with the well-being of all human beings of the world. Dr. Manjinder Singh in his address appreciated the spirit of brotherhood prevailing throughout the free verse Punjabi poetry of S. Devinder Singh Vishvanagrik.

In his address, the chief guest Prof Naresh Padha appreciated the initiatives taken by the Department of Punjabi in creating a series of interactive sessions between writers and the faculty and members, scholars and students of the Punjabi Department.  He complimented the whole staff of the Department for their contribution to such endeavours.

In his presidential address, Dr. Monojit elaborated on the features of the personality traits of S. Devinder Singh Vishavnagrik. He said that his life has been dedicated especially to the cause of the progress of the Punjabi language & literature as well the community in general. The inaugural session ended with a vote of thanks extended by Dr. Pritam Singh. 

During the second session, Prof. Mohd. Riyaz Ahmad, HoD Urdu, University of Jammu,  Dr. Manjinder Singh, HoD Punjabi, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, Smt. Surinder Neer, a renowned fiction writer of Jammu & Kashmir and S. Harjit Singh Uppal, President, Punjabi Sahitik Sabha, R S Pura were present in the presidium. Paper on the play ‘Samjhauta: Rajneetik Vandiya Ate Punjabi Maansikta’ written by Devinder Singh Vishavnagrik was presented by Dr. Navneet Kaur.

Similarly, the papers on plays ‘Kahdey Nishaan: Smajik Yatharath’, ‘Poh Di Punniya: Vishegat Sandarbh’ and ‘Devinder Singh Vishavbagrik Di Kavit: Ik Sankalpaatmik Adhyian: Visleshanatmik Adhyian’were presented by Satinderjit Singh, Prabhjit Kaur and Gurpreet Kour respectively.      

Dr Baljit Raina extended a vote of thanks at the end of the second session of the first day. Proceedings of both Sessions were conducted by Dr. Harjinder Singh, Assistant Professor of the Punjabi Department. This Two Days National Seminar would conclude with two more academic sessions followed by the valedictory ceremony on 23rd December 2022.
