UIET, Kathua Campus (JU) inaugurated One Week Plantation Drive in collaboration with Forest Department, Kathua & Department of Social Forestry, Kathua
Kathua, August 07: University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET), Kathua Campus, University of Jammu inaugurated One Week Plantation Drive in collaboration with Forest Department, Kathua and Department of Social Forestry, Kathua under the newly launched campaign of the Government of India “Meri Maati Mera Desh: Maati ko Naman, Veeron ka Vandan”. This noble endeavour witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, and community members. The core essence of the campaign revolves around connecting individuals with their roots and nurturing a deep-seated reverence for the mother land. The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Chief Guest, Dr. Meenakshi Kilam, Rector, Kathua Campus, University of Jammu.
The inauguration ceremony was a testament to the Campus’s holistic approach that was combined with environmental awareness with a vibrant cultural programme. The day began with Hawan Pujan followed by the plantation of saplings and Umbrella Walk to raise awareness about the importance of tree planting and conservation. The Umbrella Walk was a creative and engaging way to aware the students of the Campus regarding the environmental sustainability and fostering community engagement. On the first day of drive, UIET planted a total of 300 saplings across its sprawling campus.
Dr. Meenakshi Kilam, Rector, Kathua Campus (JU) said that the aim of Plantation Drive at Campus is to encourage widespread afforestation for environmental sustainability. She further stressed that Kathua Campus is always working with determination to promote ecological well-being and this initiative stands as a shining beacon of hope and uniting individuals towards a common goal of Green India. She added that the plantation drive is set to continue for the next five days with various seminars, interactive sessions and other physical activities that are planned to raise awareness about sustainable living. She also impressed upon that the collective determination and dedication of everyone have been translated into a significant contribution to the environment and this initiative underscores our commitment to nurturing our ‘maati’ (soil).
Dr. Sourabh Shastri, I/c Coordinator, UIET, Kathua Campus (JU) welcomed the guests and said that volunteers will diligently plant a diverse array of saplings in the next five days at Campus. He further added that UIET is dedicated to fostering excellence in engineering education and is committed to holistic development and societal betterment.
Dr. Pankaj Khajuria (Assistant Registrar), Sh. Narinder Verma (Range Officer), Sh. Om Parkash (Range Officer), Sh. Anil Slathia, Sh. Narinder Sumbria were also present during the programme.
Er. Vedika Khullar and Dr. Shivani Sharma coordinated the whole programme.
