UIET, Kathua Campus (JU) organises National Sports Day

Jammu, August 29: University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET), Kathua Campus (JU) organised National Sports Day showcasing an exhilarating display of athleticism and camaraderie. The day is celebrated to commemorate Major Dhyan Chand, a true sporting hero, who has left an indelible mark on the world of sports, particularly in the field of hockey. The National Sports Day celebration at UIET underscored the institution’s commitment to holistic education by promoting physical fitness, mental agility, and social interaction. The highlight of the day’s festivities was the diverse range of games offered to students, including table tennis, chess, and carrom. The winners of the various games: Arpit Sudan (Civil, 1st sem.) in Chess, Jatin Kumar (Civil, 1st Sem.) and Vikrant Singh (CSE, 1st Sem.) in Carrom and Vishawan Mansotra (CSE, 2nd Sem.) in Table Tennis and the runner ups: Hiteash Mahajan (CSE, 2nd Sem.) in Chess, Janvi Khajuria (CSE, 2nd Sem.) and Meenakshi (CSE, 1st Sem.) in Carrom and Sahil Sharma (Civil, 1st Sem.) in Table Tennis were lauded for their exceptional performances and awarded certificates and tokens for their dedication and excellence. Moreover students of UIET (Civil and CSE 1st Sem.) showcased their skill in displaying a skit on “Drug Abuse”.

Dr. Meenakshi Kilam, Rector, Kathua Campus, University of Jammu in her message expressed her happiness to see the enthusiasm and passion exhibited by our students during the National Sports Day celebration. She said that these events provide a valuable platform for students to showcase their talents, build friendships, and learn important life skills such as teamwork, discipline, and resilience. She further stressed upon the event as a reminder that sports and physical activities are an integral part of a student’s journey towards personal growth and development. She also added that the day is dedicated to Major Dhyan Chand for his remarkable achievements and unwavering dedication to the sport which today also continues to inspire athletes and enthusiasts worldwide. 

Dr. Sourabh Shastri, I/c Coordinator, UIET, said that National Sports Day celebration underscored UIET’s belief in the importance of sports and physical activities in an individual’s overall development. He further added that organising such physical activities emphasized the significance of nurturing a balanced lifestyle that encompasses both academics and extracurricular pursuits.

Mr. Vishawjeet Singh presented the welcome address; Dr. Seema Jamwal coordinated the whole programme and Er. Vedika Khullar presented the vote of thanks during the event.
