UIET, Kathua Campus (JU) organizes an Expert Talk on Future of Civil Engineering

KATHUA, July 27: University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET), Kathua Campus (JU) organized an Expert Talk under the newly launched Expert Lecture Series (5th in the series) on the topic “Future of Civil Engineering: Modern Technologies and Its Emerging Trends”. The resource person was Er. Rakesh Kumar Gupta, Chief Engineer (Civil), JKPDC Ltd, Jammu. Er. Gupta has been honoured with various awards by the State Government and District Administration including his excellent performance in better management of drainage systems and ensuring improved water supply in hard hit areas of Jammu.

Gupta in his talk explored the advancements that are revolutionizing the Civil Engineering field and transforming the way an engineer designs, constructs, and enhances overall safety and performance in the sustainable construction. He said that as natural disasters and extreme weather events become more frequent, therefore creating resilient infrastructure has become essential. He thus stressed that in present times, civil engineers are increasingly considering the impacts of climate change on their designs and incorporating all the features that can withstand and adapt to changing conditions. Further, he added that in the era of latest trends, the smart infrastructures including smart bridges, roads, buildings, cities etc. are relying on sensors, data analytics, and interconnected devices to monitor and manage various systems in real-time. He also highlighted that in today’s scenario; Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning are becoming indispensable tools and are being utilized for the safety monitoring and resource allocation of the construction works.

Dr. Meenakshi Kilam, Rector, Kathua Campus (JU) in her message appreciated the resource person for inspiring the future engineers of UIET. She said that from smart cities to sustainable materials, the future of civil engineering promises a world of innovation and efficiency. She highlighted that with the growing awareness of environmental issues, future civil engineering projects will prioritize Eco-friendly materials, energy-efficient designs, and waste reduction techniques. She also added that in the coming years, the developments are subject to change, and the future of civil engineering will depend on various factors such as technological advancements, economic conditions, and societal demands.

Dr. Sourabh Shastri, I/c Coordinator, UIET, Kathua Campus (JU) welcomed the distinguished resource person. He said that the students of UIET should learn how to embrace modern technologies and stay updated with emerging trends and advancements that are crucial for the growth and success of civil engineering in the upcoming times.
