UNESCO’s honour will further promote global interest in Indian culture, values: Sat Sharma

JAMMU, April 19: Jammu and Kashmir BJP President, Sat Sharma CA, has hailed UNESCO’s recent decision to include two foundational Indian texts—the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita and the Natya Shastra—in its prestigious “Memory of the World Register.” He termed this global recognition as a proud and historic moment for every Indian, underlining the eternal relevance and universal values embedded in India’s ancient heritage.

He said this while sharing the decision of the UNESCO with party General Secretary & MLA Dr. Devinder Kumar Manyal, Vice President & MLA Yudhvir Sethi, National Executive Member Priya Sethi, spokespersons Balbir Ram Rattan and Vikram Malhotra, Media Incharge Dr. Pardeep Mohtra, senior leaders Parmod Kapahi and Rekha Mahajan.

Sat Sharma CA expressed deep appreciation for UNESCO’s acknowledgment of India’s spiritual and cultural contributions to the world. He said that by including the Bhagavad Gita and Natya Shastra in the “Memory of the World Register”, UNESCO has globally honoured India’s rich cultural legacy and eternal values. This is not just recognition of texts, but a validation of the ethos, philosophy, and artistic vision that have guided Indian civilization.

He said that the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita, a sacred scripture and philosophical dialogue between Lord Krishna and Arjuna, stands as a timeless guide to righteous living, duty, and self-realization. The Natya Shastra, authored by Bharat Muni, is one of the oldest pieces on performing arts and aesthetics, laying the foundational principles for dance, drama, and music across the Indian subcontinent.

Sat Sharma CA emphasized that this decision by UNESCO serves as a reminder of India’s deep spiritual and cultural reservoir, which continue to inspire thinkers, artists, and leaders around the world. The world is increasingly turning to Indian knowledge systems for guidance—whether it is in the realm of spirituality, wellness, or artistic expression. This honour will further promote global interest in India’s ancient wisdom,” he added.

He further said that this moment should inspire all Indians, especially the youth, to reconnect with their roots and take pride in the nation’s cultural and intellectual traditions.
