Union Ministers Jitan Ram Manjhi, JP Nadda and Shobha Karandlaje pay floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Khadi Bhandar
New Delhi [India], October 2 (ANI): Union Ministers Jitan Ram Manjhi, JP Nadda and Shobha Karandlaje paid floral tributes to Mahtama Gandhi at Khadi Bhandar on his 155th birth anniversary on Wednesday here.
On this occasion, Manjhi said that Mahatma Gandhi on this day promoted Khadi for self-reliance and to generate employment.
Speaking to ANI, Manjhi said “Mahatma Gandhi on this day had spinned the charkha and promoted Khadi for the purpose of self-reliance and to generate employment. Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi also promoted Khadi which promotes organic manufacturing of clothes.”
Shobha Karandlaje said that Mahatma Gandhi emphasised on cleanliness and wearing Khadi during the Indian movement.
Speaking to ANI, Karandlaje said “Today is October 2 and the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. He had emphasised on cleanliness and wearing Khadi during the Indian freedom movement. He also promoted small-scale industries in the country. People have also started inclining towards wearing Khadi. The Prime Minister’s initiative of promoting Khadi has also led to the youth wearing Khadim which feels nice.”
Additionally, BJP President and Union Minister JP Nadda said that Mahatma Gandhi had promoted Khadi and it came as as a means to unite people during the freedom struggle.
“In the freedom struggle, Khadi played a very important role and Mahatma Gandhi had always promoited Khadi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi when came to power in 2014, had emphasized two things- ‘vocal for local’ and ‘Khadi for Nation, fashion and transformation.’ Khadi’s quality has been improved greatly and the annual turnover has increased from Rs 25,000 crore to Rs 1.55 lakh crore today. It has become one of the fastest moving market. I appeal to you all to buy atleast one Khadi product today,” Nadda said.
Earlier, PM Modi paid his tributes to Mahatma Gandhi,”On behalf of all countrymen, salutations to Pujya Bapu on his birth anniversary. His life and ideals based on truth, harmony and equality will always remain an inspiration for the countrymen.”
