University of Ladakh NSS Unit celebrates Kargil Vijay Diwas with fervor and remembrance

LEH, July 27: University of Ladakh NSS Unit celebrates Kargil Vijay Diwas under the patronage of Vice Chancellor,Prof. S K Mehta and under the guidance of NSS Programme Coordinator, Dr. Jigmat Dachen on July 26.

On Kargil Vijay Diwas, NSS Unit of the University of Ladakh conducted a series of events. Around 50 students and NSS volunteers and faculty members gathered to mark the day and paid tribute to soldiers of the Indian Army who fought and sacrificed their life to protect the country in the war against Pakistan.

Vice Chancellor, Prof. S. K. Mehta took a moment to remember and pay homage to the late Hav Rigzin Wangail, a martyr who sacrificed his life in enemy action during Operation Vijay in the Batalik sector of Kargil on July 6, 1999. In a poignant gesture, Hav Rigzin Wangail’s son, Stanzin Spalzang, was presented with a momentous token of respect on behalf of the University of Ladakh.

During the event, all participants took five solemn pledges (Panch Pran) to uphold the spirit of unity, peace, and national pride. The celebration concluded with a plantation drive, further reinforcing the commitment of the University towards environmental sustainability.
