UP court sentences man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping minor

Bahraich (UP), Aug 28 (PTI) A special court here has sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a 16-year-old girl in 2017.

The POCSO court also imposed a fine of Rs 77,000 on the convict, Shyam Sundar, said Special District Government Advocate (POCSO) Sant Pratap Singh.

Giving details of the case, Singh said the victim’s father lodged a complaint at Sujauli police station alleging that Sundar kidnapped and raped his daughter on November 26, 2017.

Based on the complaint, an FIR was registered against Sundar on December 11, 2017, he said.

On Tuesday, Special Additional Sessions Judge (POCSO) Deepakant Mani convicted Sundar and sentenced him to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment, Singh said.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 70,000 on him and said that the entire amount would go to the victim.
