UP: Farmers upset over damage sustained by crops after rains in Moradabad
Moradabad (Uttar Pradesh) [India], September 12 (ANI): Due to three consecutive days of incessant rains in the Moradabad district of Uttar Pradesh, a huge loss has been caused to the farmers as their fields were flooded with rainwater causing damage to the crops.
The District Magistrate visited the fields and ordered a survey of the damage that occurred in order to provide compensation to the farmers.
“If someone is left out of the survey, they can submit an application for the compensation. The same will be provided within 72 hours”, said Manvendra Singh, District Magistrate, Moradabad, while speaking to ANI.
Meanwhile, farmers have expressed their displeasure after their crops sustained damage due to excessive rains in the district.
“I took a loan and planted the crops. But it has been destroyed by the rains. Vegetable crops have been destroyed completely. My fields have been flooded with rain water”, Pushpa, a farmer said.
Another farmer, Munni also spoke about the destruction of crops.
“It has rained heavily during the past three days. All my crops were destroyed. How do I earn my livelihood now?” Munni said.
In addition, incessant rainfall led to heavy waterlogging in several areas of Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow on Monday morning.
Residents faced problems in the lower areas of Sadar in the district due to waterlogging and road subsidence.
As continuous rains battered the city, traffic was also disrupted.
