Vice Chancellor JU Prof Umesh Rai conferred with Mahatma Gandhi Seva Puraskar
Jammu, February 25- Vice Chancellor University of Jammu Prof Umesh Rai was today conferred with The Mahatma Gandhi Seva Puraskar by the advisory and executive body of Gandhi Global Family, J&K led by its President Padma Shri Dr S P Verma at an impressive function here today. The coveted award was conferred on Prof Rai for his extraordinary contribution in the field of education, especially with regard to the promotion of Gandhian values and the peace initiatives undertaken by the University of Jammu under his leadership.
Dr SP Verma while speaking on the occasion expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor for re-establishing The Gandhi Study Centre at the University of Jammu and for his peace initiative ‘Josh e Sarhad’ undertaken at India- Pakistan Suchetgarh border with BSF . Dr Verma also highlighted Jammu University’s social initiatives inspired by Gandhi jis philosophy like adoption of villages under Hon’ble Prime Minister’s Unnat Bharat Scheme and support to the children of Balgran by way of providing them computer tablets in collaboration with MIET and allied support.
It is noteworthy that the University has built up a culture of Start-ups & Innovation, promoting quality research and education for societal relevance & engagement, dissolving boundaries evolving education, promoting Trans-disciplinary & Holistic Education and promoting the culture of the region by hosting various cultural activities.
Dr Verma requested Vice-Chancellor that the UN 17 sustainable goals should be also promoted and on in sync with the G 20 platform. He further requested Vice-Chancellor that University should organise a symposium on Truth and non-violence in various categories. Dr Verma requested Vice-Chancellor that the legacy and work of Bharat Ratna awardees must be taught in University and Colleges.
Dr Verma congratulated Vice-Chancellor for the successful culmination of the recently concluded Inter-University North Zone festival organised by University of Jammu. He assured his full support and cooperation to the University. He further thanked Vice-Chancellor for involving all stakeholders of the society so that University of Jammu becomes the best seat of higher learning in the country. The Vice-Chancellor on the occasion congratulated Sh Verma for his exemplary contribution by spreading the message of peace.
