Vice Chancellor Prof Umesh Rai releases translation of “Asfar-e-Shohab” by Prof Shohab Malik

Jammu, August 02:- The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Umesh Rai today released the translation of the book “Asfar-e-Shohab”. The book was originally written by Prof. Shohab Inayat Malik, Principal, IMFA and Former Head, the Department of Urdu.

The book has been translated into Kashmiri by Pyare Hatash, a well-known Kashmiri writer and Sahitya Academy award winner, and has been published by Qasmi Qutub Khana, Jammu. The book is the collection of travelogues of Prof. Shohab Inayat Malik which contains 11 travelogues, including those of Egypt, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Mauritius, besides Lucknow and Hyderbad.

The book contains 224 pages. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Umesh Rai lauded the efforts of Prof. Shohab for the promotion of Urdu and described him as a well-known Urdu writer in the country who has authored 20 books in Urdu, which have been highly appreciated by the Urdu world. He also congratulated Pyare Hatash for his beautiful translation of the book in Kashmiri.

He emphasised the need to promote regional languages of J&K and informed that the University of Jammu will do its best to promote Dogri and Kashmiri languages, which are the main regional languages of the UT of J&K and are spoken widely in the Jammu and Kashmir region. Prof. Umesh Rai further said that Prof. Shohab is associated with many government and Non-government organisations in India and is representing Jammu University at the national and Inter-National levels. The book release function was jointly organised by the Rasa Javedani Memorial Literary Society, the Department of Urdu, the Department of Buddhist Studies and the Institute of Music and Fine Arts, JU.Brij Nath Betab presented a detailed paper on the book in which he lauded the efforts of Pyare Hatash for his beautiful translation. He informed me that Pyare Hatash is a well-known translator of UT and has already translated several books in Dogri, Kashmiri and Hindi.

The travelogues written by Prof. Shohab are important in the sense that they provide cultural and historical background for several countries in the world and some parts of India. On the occasion, Prof. Rahul Gupta, Registrar, University of Jammu, Prof. Anju Basin, Dean Academic Affairs, Prof. Reyaz Ahmed, HOD, Urdu, Prof. Chaman Lal, Assistant Professor, Urdu, Dr. Rajesh Sharma, Assistant Professor, Buddhist Studies and Aseer Kishtwari, Dr. Neeraj Sharma, Special Secy. to V.C. and Dr. Naseeb, Assistant Professor, JNU Former Director General, Finance, J&K Govt., was also present on the occasion.
