Wayanad Landslides: 210 bodies recovered, 187 people discharged from hospitals while 84 still under treatment
Wayanad (Kerala) [India], August 2 (ANI): The number of dead bodies recovered in Wayanad landslides has risen to 210 while the people who have been discharged from the hospitals stood at 187, officials said on Friday.
As per the officials, 210 bodies and 134 body parts have been recovered till now which includes 96 males, 85 females and 29 children.
The number of bodies identified by relatives stood at 146. The administration has completed the post-mortem of 207 bodies and 134 body parts found from the incident site.
According to the officials, 84 people are undergoing treatment in various hospitals in Wayanad, Kozhikode and Malappuram districts while 187 have been discharged.
273 people have been brought to hospitals from the incident site.
Earlier today, Kerala Health Minister Veena George confirmed 308 deaths in the multiple landslides that hit Wayanad on July 30.
Two massive landslides hit Wayanad’s Chooralmala and Mundakkai on July 30 creating widespread devastation, and loss of lives and property in the region.
Meanwhile, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh on Friday moved a Privilege Motion notice in Rajya Sabha, against Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his “Early Warning” claims regarding the Wayanad Landslide.
“It is clear that the Union Home Minister misled the Rajya Sabha with his emphatic statements on early warnings issued by the Union government which have been proven to be false. It is well established that misleading the house by a minister or a member constitutes a breach of privilege and contempt of the house,” the Congress leader said.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday said that the Kerala government could have minimized the losses in Wayanad if they had become alert after the Central government’s warning about potential landslides and the risk of people’s lives.
He also said that the Central government had sent an early warning to the government of Kerala 7 days before the incident, and then on July 24, 25 and July 26.
Congress MP and Leader of Opposition, Rahul Gandhi said that the Congress family would like to commit to construct 100 plus houses in Kerala’s Wayanad which witnessed large-scale devastation due to landslides.
Rahul Gandhi along with Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday visited Mundakkai and Punchiri Mattam village affected by landslide in Wayanad district of Kerala.
The LoP in the Lok Sabha and Priyanka Gandhi along with other party leaders were briefed by the district administration, and forest officers in Chooralmala, Meppadi, of Kerala’s Wayanad.
