What Happened To Fisk In Daredevil Born Again?

Daredevil: Born Again came back with so many twists, bringing back Wilson Fisk, better known as Kingpin, being one of the most remarkable ones.

Following his stint as one of the greatest comic book villains in Netflix’s Defenders Saga, D’Onofrio was rehired to resurrect the character for Born Again.

Getting to work with Charlie Cox’s Daredevil again after seven years, this is D’Onofrio’s third Multiverse Saga entry after Hawkeye and Echo.

One of the reasons Wilson Fisk is so daunting and rageous is the physical presence and strength D’Onofrio adds to the character at 6’4″ tall. But this time he looks different. This is going to be a shocker for many fans.

What has changed, and why is everyone so intrigued? Well, let’s dive in!

What Happened to Fisk In Daredevil: Born Again?

Though Vincent D’Onofrio returned to the MCU as Kingpin for Daredevil: Born Again, he looked completely different. He looked quite thinner than in any of his previous appearances.

In Marvel Comics and with the other versions of Wilson Fisk, he stands out for being huge and strong, typically dominating nearly everyone who is around him on screen. But this isn’t true for Daredevil: Born Again.

The series also sports a significantly thinner Wilson Fisk than audiences have previously witnessed in more recent MCU outings such as Hawkeye and Echo. While this might make him a less intimidating character to some, his attitude remains basically the same as what has been introduced by D’Onofrio previously.

D’Onofrio discussed this weight gain at Dragon Con in August (via Inverse), stating that he now prefers to wear a prosthetic suit to make him appear larger instead of adding the weight himself.

He also described how, in Echo, he became “very close to his original shape again” at a lower weight, which took longer because he was now at an older age.

Who Shot Wilson Fisk?

Get ready because here are some more notable changes about Wilson Fisk’s return in Daredevil: Born Again.

If you closely notice, then both of his eyes look perfectly fine again. Well, if you don’t know the MCU’s background history, then you might be in shock.

Fisk was seen in the last two episodes of Hawkeye, where his future was cast into doubt when Maya Lopez/Echo shot him in the head to end the season.

Luckily, after confirmation of a spot in Echo, fans discovered that Fisk would be returning with a vengeance following recovery from an otherwise lethal injury.

With the help of the finest medicine and technology, he was able to mend his eye and restore his vision with not much more than scarring around the eye that was damaged. This enabled him to remove the eyepatch he began Echo. But his relationship with Maya Lopez? Gone!

As far as the larger context is concerned, at the close of Daredevil Season 3, Fisk went back to prison after an ultimate fight with Matt Murdock and stayed there until the occurrences in Hawkeye.

Currently, he has managed to be democratically elected as the Mayor of New York, placing the Big Apple under a fresh new cycle of peril.
