World Blood Donor Day: District Red Cross Society organises Blood Donation Camp at GMC Kathua
KATHUA, June 14: To mark World Blood Donor Day, District Red Cross Society (IRCS) Kathua, in collaboration with the Blood Transfusion Department, Government Medical College Kathua, organised a Blood Donation Camp here today. Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Minhas, who is also the Chairman of DRCS inaugurated the Camp in presence of Principal GMC, Dr Surinder Kumar Attri, Secretary DRCS Kathua O.P Sharma and other officers.
Over 50 units of blood were donated by volunteers from Nehru Yuva Kendra, Police department and Red Cross Society. The Doctors and Para-medical staff of GMC Kathua facilitated the blood donation.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Minhas said that donating blood is a noble cause and selfless act which helps in maintaining availability of different blood groups in the blood bank to cater emergencies and saving lives. He said Blood donation is a great service to the society and civil society should come forward in such kind of events aimed at benefiting the needy. “The occasion is also an opportunity to bust the myths associated with blood donation which will make people participate in altruistic acts”, he added.
