‘World Mental Health Day’ observed at GMC Baramulla
BARAMULLA, October 10: The Department of Social welfare Baramulla in collaboration with Department of Psychiatry, GMC Baramulla observed World Mental Health Day under the theme ‘Mental Health is the Universal Human Right’ at Auditorium Govt. Medical College (GMC) Baramulla, today.
The seminar was attended by the Additional Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Zahoor ahamd Raina; Principal GMC, Professor Rubi Reshi; Medical Superintendent GMC, Dr. Parvez Masoodi; HoDs of different departments of GMC, officials of the Social Welfare department, doctors, besides a large gathering of students.
Dr. Zahoor Ahmad Raina emphasized the pivotal role of mental health in societal progress, stating that only mentally healthy individuals can truly contribute to society’s betterment.
Prof. Ruby Reshi, in her address stressed that mental health is a universal human right entailing access to quality care, eradicating stigma, and creating supportive environments for emotional well-being.
Dr. Parvez Masoodi, while speaking on the occasion commended the Psychiatry Department for their dedicated work in addressing mental health issues and conducting vital outreach programs for the well-being of citizens.
He further highlighted the notable achievements of the department such as setting up of 6-bedded IPD facility, Addiction Treatment Facility (ATF), district-wide awareness and mental health camps, and comprehensive training for Drug De-addiction Centre staff at PHC Singhpora among others.
Other distinguished speakers included Dr. Rafia Rashid, a clinical psychologist affiliated with Médicines Sans Frontières (MSF), Dr. Tariq Chalko, Vice Principal of Government Degree College Baramulla, and Dr. Tajamul, Head of Psychiatry Department at GMC.
