World Mental Health Day observed in Katra
REASI, October 10: To raise awareness, advance understanding and promote action in support of mental health as a universal human right, Health Block Katra organized a one-day program to mark World Mental Health Day. The event, held under the theme “Mental Health is a Universal Human Right,” took place at the CHC Katra, under the supervision of Dr. Gopal Dutt, Block Medical Officer Katra.
Advocate Sunil Sharma and Advocate Pallvi Sharma representing the Tehsil legal services Katra elaborated in detail the concepts in Mental Health. They said that Mental Health is a state of mental well-being that enables people to cope with the stresses of life, realize their abilities, learn well and work well, and contribute to their community.
It is an integral component of health and well-being that underpins our individual and collective abilities to make decisions, build relationships and shape the world we live in. Mental health is a basic human right and it is crucial to personal, community and socio-economic development.
Dr. Ruchi Sharma Consultant Physician and Dr. Preeti Sharma Consultant Paed explained in detail mental health care and treatment. They said it is vital to not only protect and prevent mental well-being of all but efforts are required to address the needs of people with mental health condition. This could be done through community based mental health, which is more accessible and acceptable than institutional care, helps prevent human rights violations and delivers better recovery outcomes for people with mental health conditions.
The program witnessed the active participation of healthcare officers and officials from Block Katra, patients, and members of the Tehsil Legal Services Committee Katra.
